Sh'vat or Shevat is the fifth month of the civil year and the eleventh month of the ecclesiastical year on the Hebrew calendar.
The name Shevat comes from the Akkadian language of the Babylonian Captivity of the Hebrew people. The meaning of the word in its original language is 'strike' and refers to the heavy rains of the season.
